How to Interview

From the Start

Be kind to everyone you meet! The interview may start before you even meet the hiring managers. Often times my clients have the receptionist report back how the candidate treated them upon entering the building or the suite. If they ask if you would like a drink be respectful and overly kind if you accept or decline. Sit tall and poised. Not only could this be communicated back to the hiring managers, but it will also help you build your internal confidence.

This takes us to our next step. Be POISED. If you have a bag, a coat, scarf, cell phone, drink in hands....how will you shake the hiring managers hand? You will fumble around and it might come off as clumsy. Immediately upon arriving, hang your belongings and pack your back with your items. Put your cell phone on silent and put it AWAY!

Shaking hands is a big deal for me. I can take a lot away from one handshake. Be firm with your shake and give a light squeeze. This means you should be palm to palm not just shaking with your fingers. Please do not do a limp handshake, it gives off a lack of confidence or enthusiasm.

What do you do to prepare yourself for an interview?
